The Bands
Shun Kikuta
Shunsuke "Shun" Kikuta is an internationally acclaimed guitarist who rose from playing classical guitar in Japan to becoming a defining figure in the Chicago blues scene. His career was ignited by an epiphany listening to B.B. King while studying at the Berklee College of Music, leading him to relocate to Chicago in 1990, where he endured initial financial hardships before performing alongside blues legends. Kikuta notably served as the touring guitarist for the "Godfather of Chicago Blues" Junior Wells and spent nearly a decade as the final guitarist for "Queen of the Blues" Koko Taylor, contributing to her 2007 Grammy-nominated album. Dubbed the "Shogun of Blues" by Clint Eastwood, Kikuta has performed globally at major festivals, appeared in high-profile media like Martin Scorsese’s The Blues documentary series, and collaborated with icons including Buddy Guy and B.B. King himself. In 2011, he shifted his base to Asia to tour with his own bands, release music under his label Rising Shun Records, and dedicate himself to music journalism and education as a university lecturer.
Tommy Chung
Tommy Chung is widely regarded as the seminal figure of the Hong Kong Blues scene, credited with introducing the genre to local audiences and inspiring a new generation of musicians. His deep passion for the Blues—sparked during his youth in England—led him to host Hong Kong's first popular Blues radio show in 1996 and later open the internationally acclaimed live music venue, 48th Street Chicago Blues, in 2001. Driven by his dedication to the music, Chung eventually walked away from a lucrative 18-year career as a barrister to play the Blues full-time. As the only local artist to release dedicated Blues albums—collaborating with top-tier international musicians on three separate recordings—he has firmly established himself as a premier guitarist and vocalist, performing at major music festivals across Asia and making his name entirely synonymous with Hong Kong Blues.
